Vision and Values

As part of a Church of England Academy, we have a distinctive character, where Christian values are promoted and modelled in all aspects of school life.

On one occasion, Jesus of Nazareth used a young child to teach his disciples about God's kingdom. He placed the child in the middle of the group and said, "To such as these belongs God's kingdom". In keeping with this teaching, Helme C of E Academy certainly believes that although we are a small school, our children can aspire to and deserve great success!

We believe that it is the role of the school to work with parents to nurture and develop the 'whole child', by helping our pupils to thrive academically, emotionally, spiritually and physically to enable them to achieve their full potential. In keeping with our Christian ethos, we foster respect for individuals and their differences, and through this we uphold the British Values of democracy, rule of law, respect and understanding for all families, individual liberty and mutual respect.

Values

Helme C of E Academy promotes all Christian Values and reaches out to parents and the community for ideas about which Christians Values are the focus for each half term. We also promote the Olympic and Paralymic values, which are inline with both our Christian and British values. We are building foundations for the future and develop all rounded children who show:

  • Respect for all
  • Determination in all their endeavours
  • Equality and tolerance for all
  • Courage in adversity
  • Friendship and an understanding of citizenship
  • Inspiration through their work and play

These values underpin all areas of school life.  Each week, staff nominate children who have demonstrated one of the values for a Values Certificate as part of our Friday Celebration Assembly.

At Helme School, British Values are reinforced regularly through the relationships, attitudes and language which are promoted in school as well as through many practical opportunities:

Helme has a reputation for its involvement in local, national and global celebrations and events, such as;

  • Christ Church, Helme activities, Helme Hall Residential Home, Meltham Memories and other village events
  • Remembrance Services, Olympics and Commonwealth Games and their values,
  • International links – particularly with schools in Uganda and France, Harvest Festivals, supporting and leading events in the local community, Fairtrade, Meals on Wheels, charitable activities e.g. Children in Need and Red Nose Day.
